EARLY INTERCEPTIVE ORTHODONTICS FOR CHILDREN

Dr. Gooding is absolutely of the mindset to prevent problems before they occur. This is why we are passionate about giving parents options for their children when we see the first signs of future problems developing. We also now understand how vital appropriate breathing is not only to our health but for proper development of the dental arches to allow room for the erupting adult teeth. There are many signs that parents can look for to assess if their child may have breathing problems which could affect their overall health.

Signs of breathing issues and potential for future crowding and orthodontic issues:

  • Noisy breathing/snoring (sleep should be silent)
  • Breathing with mouth open
  • Sleeping with mouth open
  • Chronic Tiredness/Hard to wake in morning
  • Retruded chin
  • Stunted growth
  • Difficulty eating
  • Night sweats
  • Night terrors
  • Sleep talking or walking
  • Extending neck backwards to sleep
  • Bedwetting after potty training complete
  • ADHD
  • Troubles with concentrating/behavior issues
  • Recurring sinus infections
  • Recurring ear infections
  • Large swollen tonsils

If your child has any issues from the list above please contact your health care provider or our office for an assessment to see if early orthodontic treatment or myofunctional therapy could help your child breathe better and have a healthier smile! Please watch this video that explains issues with breathing (sleep disordered breathing) and how they affect growth and the dental health of children.
