Endodontics and Root Canal Therapy
That word refers to dental care that deals with the inside of the tooth, and it includes treatments such as root canal therapy. Why might you need endodontics? If you start experiencing chronic tooth pain or increased sensitivity, it could be a sign that you’re suffering from a problem with the pulp that is located inside of your tooth. This pulp is made up of tissue that includes nerves, and these nerves carry impulses to the brain when a problem arises. Problems could include pulp exposed by extensive decay or a cracked tooth or pulp damaged by a blunt force trauma to a tooth. When the pulp is diseased or damaged, it will eventually lead to further infection elsewhere, abscess, and even the need to extract the tooth. Endodontic treatment can prevent big problems – which can even be life threatening! Root canal therapy can stop tooth pain, too.
